Mister America was born Ralph Lifshitz in 1939 and started out in ties. In 1967 he opened his own tie store, also selling his own designs under the label Polo. Three years later his first men's wear collection was quickly followed by women's wear, all very waspy, preppy upper class perfection. "Princeton, Harvard, Yale," he says. “I love the oldness, the custom mood of navy blazers, school crest, rep ties, flannels and saddle shoes. It's about bringing a European sense of quality and tradition into an American style and spirit. Everything I've done is about life, how people live and how they dream they'll live."
