What in 2005 started out as a knitwear label quickly turned into all-round urban designs leaning heavily on downtown New York chic for edgy twenty-somethings with a fondness of all things black. "I'm not like most designers, who have to set sail on an exotic getaway to get inspired," Alexander Wang (1983) says. "Most of the time, it's on my walk to work, or sitting in the subway and seeing something random or out of context." He is known for his phobia of insects, his love for 'Clueless' and his 'model off-duty' look, mixing high fashion with more casual elements. Wang is currently also creative designer of Balenciaga.
